Are you new to the world of digital marketing? Feeling lost in the land of endless acronyms?
Never fear, the experts are here. Here is our cheat sheet to the world of digital marketing acronyms.
CTR: Click Through Rate
This is a measure of the number of clicks your ad has received, divided by the number of times your ad has appeared, allowing you to measure how people are engaging with your ad.
CPL: Cost Per Lead
This is the cost you are charged as you receive a lead through your ad campaign. A lead counts as anyone who submits further information to you, such as an email address, and that came from clicking on your ad.
CPC: Cost Per Click
The cost for each time your ad gets clicked on! This means that if someone clicks one your ad four times, you will be charged for four clicks – even if it’s the same person.
CPM: Cost Per Thousand Impressions
CPM is a measurement of how much money it costs your business to reach 1,000 impressions (every 1,000 times your ad loads to a page).
KPI: Key Performance Indicator(s)
When developing your marketing strategy, you’ll develop goals and key metrics that you’d like to measure regularly as a reflection of your business growth. KPI’s are the metrics that you will be measuring!
PPC: Pay Per Click
PPC is the same as CPC. The names are used interchangeably.
PPV: Pay Per View
This is the cost that comes with each view of your ad. A view only counts when it is 100% in view for a specific duration of time. This prevents fast scrollers who did not properly load and view your ad.
SEM: Search Engine Marketing
SEM is the ads that appear on search engines such as Google or Bing. Based on search criteria, budget, and keywords, your ad will appear.
SEO: Search Engine Optimisation
SEO uses targeted keywords and content to boost your webpage higher up in a search engine organically (without payment).
RTB: Real Time Bidding
This is the way in which advertising is bought and sold on a per-impression basis (CPM) through real-time auctions. Real-time auctions occur as a webpage is loading.
ROI: Return On Investment
The measuring of profit or loss relative to the money invested. This is usually expressed as a percentage to compare a business’s success.
